Leica acquires Genetix Ltd.

Leica Microsystems has acquired Genetix Ltd., a provider of imaging and image analysis products for clinical and research applications. Genetix will exist as a separate business unit within Leica Microsystems and Genetix products will continue to be marketed and sold through existing channels. Customer services such as product ordering, applications support and instrument service for Genetix products will remain unchanged.

The acquisition will give Genetix more access to global markets as well as greater financial resources, according to the company. Leica says the acquisition will help it to make progress in virtual microscopy and drug discovery and development markets.
